جس زمین میں فصل کاشت کرنا ہو اس کو اچھی طرح تیار کرنا نہایت ضروری ہے۔ چار پانچ مرتبہ ہل و سہاگہ چلایا جائے تاکہ مٹی اچھی طرح باریک اور بھر بھری ہو جائے۔ اگر زمین اونچی نیچی ہے تو اس کو ہموار کرنا بھی ضروری ہے۔ اس کے بعد فصل بونے سے پندرہ دن پہلے اچھی طرح گلی سڑی گوبر کی کھاد 12 تا 10 من فی ایکڑ کھیت میں بکھیر کر ہل چلانا چاہیے تاکہ کھاد زمین میں سما جائے۔ پھر دوبارہ ہل و سہاگہ چلایا جائے۔
